Who controls your information

Car Hire Tivat, based in Tivat, Montenegro, is the data controller for the personal information collected through carhiretivat.com. Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but its data protection law is closely modelled on the GDPR, and because most people who use this site are travelling from the EU, we apply GDPR standards to everyone who visits, regardless of where they are travelling from. Information we collect

Search parameters. The pickup location, dates and car category you enter to compare cars.

Enquiry and booking details. Your name, email address, phone number and any information you add in a message, plus the travel dates you submit when you proceed with a car.

Communications. Anything you send us directly, including reviews and support questions.

Technical information. Standard server logs such as your IP address, browser type, device type and the pages you visit, collected automatically as part of running the website.

Information we do not collect

We never see or store your payment card number, its expiry date or its security code. Payment for your rental is taken by the supplier directly, whether online, over the phone or in person at pickup, and none of it passes through this site.

We do not collect your driving licence number, your passport number or copies of either document. Suppliers check these at the handover desk and hold them under their own rental agreement and their own privacy notice, not ours.

Why we process your information

To answer your enquiry and pass a booking on to the supplier you choose, which we do to take the steps you asked for before a contract with that supplier exists.

To keep the site secure, prevent misuse and understand how it performs, which is a legitimate interest of ours that we balance against your right to privacy.

Where you have given it, your consent, for example for optional cookies described in our Cookie Policy, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

The rental supplier you choose, so that they can prepare and honour your booking. LocalRent, the booking technology that powers search and reservations on this site, and which processes your enquiry on our behalf under its own security safeguards. Hosting and IT service providers who store the site's data for us. An authority, where we are required by law to disclose information. We do not sell your information to anyone, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Where your information is processed

Your information may be processed in Montenegro, in the European Union, or in another country where our hosting or booking technology operates. Where information leaves the EU, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or transfers to a country recognised as offering an adequate level of protection.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry and booking details for as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case a question arises about it, normally no more than twenty four months. Technical logs are kept for a shorter period, normally around twelve months, and are then deleted or anonymised.

Your rights under the GDPR

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
• Ask us to erase your information where there is no good reason for us to keep it
• Ask us to restrict how we process your information
• Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
• Object to processing that is based on our legitimate interest
• Withdraw your consent at any time where processing relies on it
• Lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority
