Who we are

Car Hire Tivat operates carhiretivat.com, a comparison and referral service for car hire around Tivat and the wider Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. We are not a rental company. We do not own, insure or operate any of the vehicles shown on this site. Each car belongs to an independent rental supplier, and every rental agreement is between you and that supplier alone.

These terms cover your use of this website: searching, comparing and submitting a booking enquiry. They do not replace the rental agreement you sign with the supplier when you collect your car, which governs the hire itself and takes priority over anything written here.

What booking through this site means

When you search on carhiretivat.com and select a car, we pass your enquiry, your travel dates and your contact details to the supplier operating that vehicle. The supplier confirms availability, takes any deposit or payment it requires and issues your booking reference. We do not process payments, we do not hold your money at any stage, and we are not a party to the contract that results.

We are paid a commission by the supplier when a booking made through this site goes ahead. That commission is a cost of the supplier's marketing, not an amount added to your price, and you never pay us directly for anything.

Accuracy of listings

Prices, availability, mileage limits, deposit amounts and vehicle descriptions on this site come from the suppliers themselves and are refreshed on a regular schedule. Even so, a car can sell out, a price can move with demand, or a supplier can change a policy between the moment you view a listing and the moment you complete your enquiry. The figure and the terms confirmed by the supplier at the point of booking are the ones that apply, not the figure you saw earlier on this site.

Tell us if you spot a listing that looks wrong, out of date or misleading and we will correct or remove it.

Your responsibilities as a driver

You are responsible for meeting the supplier's own conditions of hire. In practice this usually means holding a valid driving licence for the minimum period the supplier sets, typically one year, sitting within its minimum and maximum age limits, and presenting a credit card in the lead driver's name for the security deposit. Bring your passport and licence to the handover. A supplier can refuse a booking on the spot if these do not match what was submitted.

If you plan to drive into Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina or Albania, get the supplier's written permission and a green card before you leave Montenegro. Crossing without them can void your insurance, and is a matter between you and the supplier, not us.

Cancellations and changes

Cancellation and amendment terms are set by the supplier, not by us, and vary from one listing to the next. Some carry free cancellation up to a stated point, others do not. Read the terms shown against a listing before you submit your enquiry. To cancel or change a confirmed booking, contact the supplier directly using the details in your confirmation. We can help you find the right contact, but the decision sits with them.

Limits of our liability

We work to keep listings accurate and to route your enquiry to the right supplier promptly, but we do not inspect the vehicles, control the suppliers' pricing or guarantee availability. We are not liable for a supplier's cancellation, a vehicle's condition, a deposit dispute, a delay at handover or any loss arising from the rental itself. Those matters sit with the supplier under the agreement you sign with them.

To the extent the law allows, our liability to you for the use of this website is limited to direct losses caused by our own negligence, and excludes indirect or consequential loss such as a missed connection or spoiled holiday time.

Acceptable use

Use this site only for a genuine car hire enquiry. Do not scrape, copy or systematically extract listing data, attempt to interfere with the site's operation, submit false booking details, or use the contact or review forms to send spam, malicious content or anything unlawful. We can restrict or refuse access to anyone who misuses the site.

Intellectual property

The text, design, comparisons and code of carhiretivat.com belong to Car Hire Tivat unless stated otherwise, and may not be copied or republished without permission. Vehicle photographs, supplier names and supplier logos remain the property of the rental companies that supplied them.

Reviews and other content you submit

If you leave a review, or send us photographs or comments, they must describe a genuine experience and must not be defamatory, unlawful or written on behalf of someone else. By submitting content you allow us to publish, edit or remove it at our discretion, and you are not paid for it. We can take down a review that breaches these terms or that we cannot verify.

Changes to these terms

We can update these terms as the site or our supplier relationships change. A new version takes effect as soon as it is posted here, and the date at the top of this page tells you when that last happened. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the current version.
